Korolev will play Guillermo Garcia-Lopez in the quarterfinals. The two players have only played once, where the Russian prevailed on clay in Valencia last year.

Later in the day, Korolev lost his doubles match with partner, Paul Capdeville of Chile to the Austro-German duo of Peya and Petzchner in straight sets.
