Andy Murray bested Roger Federer in the first semifinal match of the day 6-3 4-6 6-1. Murray dominated in the first set and the beginning of the second set. Federer then rallied in the second set to break the Scotsman and take the second set.
After winning the second set, it looked like Federer would do his usual match takeover, but the momentum changed when Murray broke Federer in the fourth game of the third set. The Swiss unraveled with many unforced errors and poor serving. At a certain point, Murray simply just kept balls into play and let Federer make the error.
Murray is one of three players, in addition to Rafael Nadal and Gilles Simon, who have winning records against Federer. This win brings their head-to-head to 6-2 in favor of Murray. It is also his fourth win over Federer in a row.
