Well, well, well. Rafael Nadal made the top 10 list of America’s most-liked sports figures. He came in fourth behind Shawn Johnson, Larry Johnson, and Kurt Warner with 68% percent of people who liked him. Tiger Woods is two spots behind Nadal at number six with 65%. And no, Roger Federer and Andy Roddick did not make the list.

Despite America’s tennis community’s groupthink, Nadal is not only the most popular player worldwide, but he is also the most likeable player in America, which is a big deal. Our tennis writers, announcers, and pundits generally prefer Federer and think that because they do, so do you.

So when you are watching that match and someone like Brad Gilbert is acting like Federer is the biggest star on tour, now you know he is full of it. It is just HE really likes him best because America actually prefers Nadal.

Shawn Johnson is an Olympic gymnast, so that makes sense. The other two are football players. It is pretty good for him since tennis is not as big as football or basketball. Plus, he is the only foreigner on the list. It is majah.
