Spaniard Juan Carlos Ferrero won his second-career title in two years last Sunday in Brazil. The Brazilian title brings his career total to lucky thirteen. It’s amazing what happens when he is not constantly injured.

His compatriot, Fernando Verdasco won the San Jose title on the same day. It is his first title of the year and fourth-career title. Let’s hope this is the beginning of a winning streak for the world no. 11.

Top-seed Juan Carlos Ferrero had a routine win over Eduardo Schwank 7-6(4) 6-3 after 126 minutes of play. The Spaniard will meet Chilean Nicolas Massu in the second round. The world no. 22 leads their head-to-head 6-2.

In a battle of Brazilians, third-seed Thomaz Bellucci emerged victorious over Thiago Alves. He was able to advance with a 6-2 7-5 victory to the second round. The 22 year old will next play Spaniard Daniel Gimeno-Traver, who he has never played before.

Should there be no upsets in the next two rounds, Ferrero and Bellucci could meet in the semifinals.

After winning the singles title, Tommy Robredo came back later last night and played in the doubles final with Marcel Granollers. The Spaniards bested the Argentine team of Lucas Arnold Ker and Juan Monaco in straight sets 6-4 7-5. This is the first time that Robredo has won the singles and doubles titles in the same tournament.

Tommy Robredo beat Brazilian Thomaz Bellucci 6-3 3-6 6-4 in tonight's final. The match took 132 minutes. At first, it looked like it was going to be a routine win for the Spaniard and then Bellucci gave him a bit of trouble.

Robredo broke the young lefty in the second game and consequently took the first set easily. The crowd turned up the volume in the second set for their local favorite. Bellucci then broke Robredo in the middle of the second set and snuck off with the set. In the third set, everyone was on serve until the sixth game when Robredo broke Bellucci. The Brazilian had break point on Robredo's next serve to break back, but the Spaniard held on. Bellucci held serve on the next game and then broke back the ninth game. Robredo broke back again for the title.

This is Robredro's eighth ATP World Tour title and his seventh on clay. His won his last title on clay last year in Bastad, Sweden.

Tommy Robredo beat Argentine Jose Acasuso pretty handily in straight sets and won with his partner, Marcel Granollers in doubles. Robredo will play Thomaz Bellucci of Brazil in the singles championship match tomorrow, and then Arnold/Monaco in the doubles championship.
