Dmitry Tursunov won his sixth career title and his maiden grass title. The Russian surpassed Canadian qualifier Frank Dancevic 6-3 7-6(5) after 82 minutes of play. Tursunov denied the Canadian of his first career title.

Despite winning the title, Tursunov injured his ankle towards the end of the match. Asked if his it will affect him at the all-England club:

I am definitely going to try to come out, unless I am going to be on crutches. Even then I will try to come out.

The title win gives the Russian some momentum for Wimbledon, and Tursunov definitely agrees:

It's a good win and it doesn't matter what surface it is on. Playing on grass can be tough because we only get three or four weeks on it, but it seems like a good surface for me. It's human nature to want to beat someone whether it's Eastbourne, Wimbledon or a Futures or Challenger event. And it's given me some practice on grass which is very important in the lead-in to Wimbledon.

Saturday’s Order of Play

Dmitry Tursunov has made a nice run in Eastbourne this week and has booked a spot in the final. The second-seed did so by getting passed eighth-seed Guillermo Garcia-Lopez pretty easily 6-2 6-2 after just 70 minutes of play. The Russian has had a less than a stellar season so far and has not passed the round of 16, so this week’s run is a season booster.

He books a spot against Canadian-qualifier Frank Dancevic, who beat Fabrice Santoro 6-4 6-4. The 24 year old and current ATP World No. 126 is looking for his first career title, and tomorrow’s appearance will only be his second career final. It will be an uphill battle for the Canadian, as the Russian is a little more experienced with a couple more years on tour and five career titles. Tursunov also leads their head-to-head 2-0.

Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski took out Travis Parrott and Filip Polasek 6-4 6-4 in the AEGON International doubles final today in Eastbourne, Great Britain. This is their first title this year and their ninth career title together. The tournament win should be a nice boost for the duo going into Wimbledon.

Also, good job to Travis Parrott and Filip Polasek for making it to the final. It was their second final of the year, but the Amercican-Slovakian duo have come up short both times. Maybe, three times is the charm.

Dmitry Tursunov was able to fend off Fabio Fognini in his Eastbourne debut. He defeated the Italian 6-3 4-6 6-4 in a not quite two-hour match. Tursunov is not having the greatest season this year. His best showings this year are in the round of 16 in Marseille and Halle.

In the next round, he will meet British qualifier Alex Bogdanovic. Tursunov leads their head-to-head 1-0. Their only meeting was at the Queen’s Club in 2006. It would be nice to see the Russian put a string of matches together for a run in Eastbourne.
