The Germans managed to win the singles and doubles titles in Halle, Germany. Tommy Haas upset second-seed Novak Djokovic 6-3 6-7(4) 6-1. This is Haas’s first title of the year and twelfth career title. Haas has overcome injuries over the last couple of years, and the win is his first title in two years. Hopefully, this win will give the German some impetus for Wimbledon.

On the doubles side, Germans Christopher Kas and Philipp Kohlschreiber won the doubles title to top off the German titles sweep to the delight of the hometown fans. They took care of the German-Swiss duo of Andreas Beck and Marco Chiudinelli 6-3 6-4. The title is their second championship together.

Sunday’s Order of Play

Novak Djokovic booked the last spot against Tommy Haas in the Halle final. The Serb was able to get passed Belgian Olivier Rochus 7-6(7) 6-4 in just under two hours of play.

Djokovic now advances to his third career meeting with Haas and is 2-0 over the German in their head-to-head matchup. Their last meeting was in the second round of Indian Wells this year. Like Andy Murray, he is looking to win his first grass tournament.

Tommy Haas rallied to beat Phillip Kohlschreiber 2-6 7-6(5) 7-6(3) in a 132-minute, all-German matchup. It is a good win for Haas since he has been plagued with injuries over the last couple of years. The German has been healthy this month, and the results are starting to show.

Haas has now booked a spot in the Halle final. This is his first final in two years. His last final appearance was in Memphis in 2007, where he eventually beat Andy Roddick for the title. He now awaits the winner of the Djokovic-Rochus match.

Novak Djokovic had a routine win over Austrian Jurgen Melzer 6-1 6-4 after just 66 minutes of play. Today's victory was a much easier win for the Serb after yesterday's match with Florent Serra where he had to save five match points before securing the victory.

Djokovic advances to the semifinals to play qualifier Olivier Rochus, who beat Benjamin Becker. Rochus is 2-0 over the Serb. The last time the two players met was in 2005 when Djokovic was just 17 years old, and a lot has changed since then.

Thursday’s Order of Play

The Germans are playing on their home soil in Halle, Germany. To the delight of the hometown fans, the Germans won every match they played in today. There are currently seven Germans still active in the draw.

Wildcard Mischa Zverev saved two match points before rallying to upset fifth-seed Tomas Berdych. Philipp Kohlschreiber took out sixth-seed Dmitry Tursunov. Another wildcard, Benjamin Becker upset countryman and eighth-seed Rainer Schuettler.

The biggest upset of the day was the Tommy Haas victory over fourth-seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. He triumphed over the Frenchman 6-3 7-6(3) after 79 minutes of play. The current ATP world no. 41 has struggled with injuries, and his ranking dropped to no. 87 last March. Over the last month, he is looking like he has recovered and is back in shape. Last week, Haas made it to the round of 16 at Roland Garros, where he eventually lost to Roger Federer.

Haas now advances to the quarterfinals to play fellow German Mischa Zverev. The two players have never met in ATP competition.

On the doubles side, Nicolas Kiefer and Mischa Zverev defeated Novak Djokovic and Viktor Troicki in dominate fashion 6-1 6-1. They head to the semifinals and await the winner of the Gicquel/Tsonga-Beck/Chiudinelli match.

Roger Federer pulled out of the tournament because of exhaustion. This now leaves the draw wide open and gives the second-seed Novak Djokovic a nice opening for his first grass title.

All of the seeded players advanced today, except for Fernando Verdasco. German Philipp Petzschner sent the Spaniard packing by upsetting the third-seed 3-6 7-6(5) 6-4 in front his hometown audience. He and three other Germans advanced today. In the second round, Petzschner will play Olivier Rochus, who double bageled Spaniard Fernando Vicente 6-0 6-0. The two have never met in ATP competition.

Nicolas Kiefer easily took out Viktor Troicki 6-2 6-1 to the delight of the hometown crowd after just 75 minutes of play.
